History of the Journal
The
Truth About The Fact annually receives approximately
300 total submissions from the international literary community, including
South Africa, Sri
Lanka, China, Britain, Canada and the United States. Using the “blind
submission” approach, approximately 30 pieces are selected, including
the work of about 10 Loyola Marymount University students. It takes 3
of the 4 editors
(whose votes are equally weighted) for a piece to be accepted.
The Truth About the Fact has appeared at venues such as the West Hollywood Book Fair and the KTLA Channel Sunday Morning News show Pacesetters, and sponsored events at places such as: Club Fais Do Do, the Levine Greenberg Literary Agency, and Loyola Marymount University. The Truth About the Fact hosts two annual publication parties in both Los Angeles and New York City. The West Coast Publication Party is hosted by Loyola Marymount University and regularly attended by 200+ attendees. The listening audience includes editors, media representatives, literary agents, students, faculty and literary presenters. The East Coast Publication Party is graciously hosted by the prestigious Levine Greenberg Literary Agency in lower Manhattan and is attended by editors and agents from companies such as: Harcourt, Simon & Schuster, Henry Holt, St. Martins, Penguin Putnam, and Basic Books. Two years ago at the East Coast Publication Party in Manhattan, contributor Malina Sarah Saval impressed the 17 invited New York editors with her fine writing and engaging reading style. Malina eventually submitted a book proposal "The Secret Life of Boys," an insightful and troubling look at the culture of boys. The proposal went to auction with Random House and Basic Books vying for the book. The book was purchased by Basic Books (known for their intellectually engaging nonfiction; publisher of Pulitzer Prize winners Elliot Jaspin and Edwin Burrows). It comes out late 2008. |
